Mower Care & Maintenance Checklist

Simple steps to keep your mower running like new. Regular servicing extends your mower's life. Give key components a quick visual check every month, and a full service at the specified intervals.

Safety First

Place the mower on a level, solid surface and unplug the spark plug lead before any service.

What You'll Need

Tools: Socket set, oil removal kit, gloves, rags, brush, zip-lock bag, warm water and soap.

Parts: Spark plug, blades, air filter and oil.

Spark Plug

Replace spark plugs every 3 years, or sooner if performance drops and ensure you match your old plug to find the right replacement.

Blades

Replace when blades are worn, bent or damaged (always in pairs) and ensure you use the old blade as your reference for size and fit.

Oil

Check oil regularly and top up if low  - never let your mower run dry.

Ensure you change yearly (dark oil means it’s due) and never tip the mower on it’s side, this can lead to starting/running problems.

Air Filter

Paper Filters: Tap clean

Foam Filters: Wash in warm soapy water, dry fully, then re-oil before refitting

Fuel

Replace fuel older than 3 months, or if it's contaminated with water.

After Servicing

Refit the spark plug lead and test the mower. Unusual smoke, vibration or noise? Stop immediately and see your local service dealer.

2-Stroke Servicing Maintenance Checklist

Cleaning

Cleaning the air filter and ensuring fresh fuel is used is typically the only frequent maintenance required.

Spark Plug

Replace every 3 years, or sooner if performance drops, ensuring you match your old plug to find the right replacement.

Oil

Use 2-Stroke specific oils only, never use 4-Stroke oils like SAE30.

Fuel

Correct mix ratio is typically 25:1 or 50:1 depending on OEM spec.

Old or stale fuel causes hard starting and gumming.

Ensure you inspect fuel lines and the fuel filter for cracking or blockage - replace if brittle.

Check the primer bulb (if fitted) for cracks.

Empty fuel tank if not using for 2-3 weeks as oil will separate over time from the fuel.

General

Chainsaws: Regularly clean the chain and bar of sawdust, adjust your chain tension during use (every 15 minutes) to prevent the chain coming off.

Hedge trimmers: Clean the blades after use with a brush and lubricate with a natural oil.

Trimmers: Use recommended line - thicker line does not necessarily reduce wear.

After Servicing

Refit the spark plug lead and test the unit.

Unusual smoke, vibration or noise? Stop immediately and see your local service dealer.
